Requirements to rent a car in Cuba
Renting a car in Cuba is easy if you bring the right documents and know the rental company's rules. This is what you need.
Documents
- A passport or ID.
- A valid driver's license.
- Your date of birth (we ask for it when you book because it can change the price).
We ask for these details in the booking form, and on pickup day you show the documents at the office.
Driver's age
The rental companies rent to drivers from 21 years old up to 79. Drivers aged 21 to 24 and older drivers pay a daily insurance surcharge. If it applies to you, you'll see it in the price breakdown before booking.
Rental length and notice
- Most cars are rented for 3 to 30 days (some electric cars from 1 day).
- In high season most cars have a 5-day minimum.
- Book at least 24 hours ahead. For Christmas and summer, months ahead.
What you pay in Cuba at pickup
- Fuel: Not charged in the booking. It's paid in cash at the pickup office in Cuba, based on the amount in the car and the current price.
- Security deposit, refunded when you return the car in good condition.
- Other charges (additional driver, surcharges) are paid at the rental office when the contract is opened.
Do I have to pay to book?
No. You send the request without paying, we confirm real availability with the rental company in less than 24 hours, and only then do you pay. We explain everything in how to book step by step.
